Karen Lock
Karen has served her native South Africa as a diplomat for 17 years. Her postings include Singapore, Zimbabwe and the United Nations in New York where she served as Deputy Director. She has represented South Africa in major multilateral negotiations including the CITES COP 10, OAU Summit, the 2000 Millennial Summit, the 2005 World Summit, and the 2008 International Conference to Review the Implementation of the Monterrey Consensus. Karen’s time at the United Nations gave her extensive experience on a wide range of issues, such as peacekeeping, peace-building and reconstruction, development (special needs of Africa), human resources management policies, governance, results based budgeting, monitoring and evaluation, and United Nations reform. Her expertise includes international economics and trade, negotiation strategies, financing for development, and multilateral development issues. Karen speaks English, French and Portuguese, holds a Master’s Degree from the Fletcher School of International Affairs, and currently lives in Johannesburg, South Africa
